My 30 for 30

I want to begin this post by apologizing for not posting this sooner. I’ve been battling a horrible cold (am on antibiotics now), and was busy with my family. My husband is on vacation until Jan 7, so we are taking full advantage of it. My last Christmas gift from the boys was a Mama’s day. I took full advantage on Wednesday and headed downtown for some window shopping. I spent a few hours in my absolute favorite French bakery called Thierry, reading my new In Style magazine and Secret Daughter. This was all done without a single interruption by my son or anyone else for that matter. It was truly heaven :). I came home and feasted on roast beast, mashed potatoes and broccoli. Yesterday we took my son to his very first movie in the theaters. We saw Monster’s Inc in 3D. He loved it. So as you can see I have been quite busy.

So now let’s get to my 30 for 30. First let me explain what 30 for 30 is. It’s selecting 30 items of clothing and making 30 outfits out of them. I first got the idea a while ago but then recently discovered a great blog called Kendi Everyday, who gave me the kick in the butt I needed. You can see here her idea of 30 for 30. I’ve made some changes to her suggestions. Here are my rules:

1. Pick 30 items in your closet, including shoes (winter jackets and jewelry don’t count). Don’t worry if you don’t have 30 items. Include as many as you want.

2. Can’t purchase anything new for 30 days (I thought this is a perfect time to do it since most of us are poor from Christmas). NO SHOPPING!!!!

3. Make 30 different outfits from those 30 items you picked.

4. The items picked need to reflect your lifestyle. I am a nurse and a mom so I don’t need to include suits in my list.

5. Make sure you include items that are weather appropriate. Like for me living in Vancouver, my Hunter rain boots are definitely on my list.

I have included a couple of exceptions. Let me explain. I am going to see Lady Gaga next Saturday and have the great honor of seeing Oprah at the end of the month. The outfits I have picked out for both are not appropriate for every day wear. It’s not like I can pick up my son in a sequined top and my black patent heels. So I will be wearing a few items the next 30 days, that are not new  but will not be included in my 30 for 30.

I will be starting my 30 for 30 on Monday January 7. On Monday I will post my 30 items and each day for the next 30 days I will post my outfits. On the 30th day I will do a recap of all the outfits I wore and how many times I wore each item. January is the perfect time to do this. It’s a great way to get the most out of your existing wardrobe and a great way to save money.

A friend of mine said that she can’t do it because she is a teacher and wears different things  to school than she does when she is with her kids. You can definitely still participate. I’m sure many of the tops she wears to school could be worn while she is with her kids and vice versa. It’s all about being creative. By the end of this you will be amazed at the outfits you have created. Remember accessories will be your best friend.

So you have all weekend to scour through your closets and join me Monday for this fashion adventure. The challenge ends Tuesday February 5.

Good look everyone. Please feel free to post comments about any challenges you guys face or hints to help make this easier. If you have any questions you can e-mail me at vodkainfusedlemonade@gmail.com.

Happy Friday and Weekend Everyone!!!!

  1. Both my 26 and 17 year old sons are sick right now… I hope you get better quickly….
As for your challenge, I look forward to following your journey. I just have so many boots and booties that I love to wear and would not want to be restricted from wearing any of them in the next month. Can’t wait to see how you do! Good Luck!

    • Thank you.I’m hoping the antibiotics start working soon. Hope your son’s feel better soon. I totally understand what you are saying about wanting to wear all your fantastics shoes. For me it’s a good way to get out of the rut of saying “I have nothing to wear”.
